Historically, evangelicals have held a high view of the dignity of human life because they believe people are created in God's image. RTL hopes to mobilise evangelicals in the fight to defend the dignity of human life which is under assault as never before in our history.

The challenges being mounted against the dignity of human life include new legislative moves to:

• make abortion more readily available (even though there are now 500 abortions carried out in Britain every working day);
• extend the availability of human pesticide "emergency contraception" pills to under-age schoolgirls without parental knowledge or consent;
• allow further genetic manipulation of, and tissue-harvesting from, human embryos; and
• enshrine in law the right of doctors to intentionally kill mentally incapacitated patients whose lives are considered "unworthy to be lived".

These moves should be of real concern to life-affirming evangelicals who believe that God truly did say "Thou shalt not kill".
